Luis Lobo serves as the President for BB&T’s Washington Metropolitan Region based in Washington, D.C. BB&T is the tenth largest bank in the US and was recently recognized by Greenwich and Associates with 20 awards of excellence in Commercial and Small Business services. Based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the 138 year old bank has 1850 branches in 13 states ranging from the Frederick-Baltimore area in the north to Florida in the south and as far west as Kentucky and Texas.

Mr. Lobo’s career has involved most facets of commercial, retail, mortgage and international banking in the past 27 years. The D.C. area is his 11th community throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and D.C., all with BB&T.

Nationally he serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the Board of Directors of The National Association of Small Government Contractors. His involvement in the Washington area includes serving as Assistant Treasurer of the ExComm of the Greater Washington Board of Trade; Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and, as a management member of the BB&T Washington Board of Directors.

Mr. Lobo served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Southeastern University ('05-'08); The Frederick County, MD Library Board ('05-'07); and was Chairman of Children's Charities 2007 Gala. He has been the Past President of the Southern Pines Jaycees near Pinehurst, North Carolina; Past President of the Apex Chamber of Commerce, and the 35th President of the Apex Rotary Club in the Raleigh vicinity. He was named Apex Citizen of the Year in 1993. Also, he was President of the Professional Latin American Association in Norfolk, Virginia.  

Mr. Lobo lectures extensively at colleges, universities and financial industry forums across the U.S. on “Change Management,” “Leadership,” and “Sales Culture.” Mr. Lobo served 10 years on the faculty of the BB&T Banking School at Wake Forest University and is on the faculty of ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at University of Pennsylvania. He has been featured on NPR’s Marketplace and national and regional publications. Minority Business & Professional Network named Mr. Lobo one of the 50 Most Influential Minorities in Business in the nation in 2004. In 2005 Belmont Abbey College inducted him into its inaugural Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame. The Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named him Banker of the Year in 2007 for his support of financial services to the multi-cultural community.  The Hispanic Committee of Virginia awarded him the “HERMES AWARD” in 2007 for his community leadership in the Hispanic community in Northern Virginia and D.C.

A native of Costa Rica, Mr. Lobo was raised in Lincolnton, N.C. He received a double major in economics and business administration in 1983 from Belmont Abbey College in the Charlotte area. He earned an MBA from Campbell University at Buies Creeks, North Carolina; and received his degree with honors from the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware in 1998. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in the Advanced Management Program in 1999. Mr. Lobo’s first book, "It IS Your Attitude," was published in 2004 by James and Brookfield, Atlanta.
