Welcome to good times, family fun and an unforgettable Mexican food experience! Uncle Julio's Bethesda Row, known locally as the Rio Grande Café, is situated at the corner of Bethesda Avenue and Arlington Road. Opened in 1987, this location was the second Uncle Julio's restaurant we opened, and the first established in the Washington D.C. area. With nearby access to the Bethesda Metro Red Line and located only a few minutes from downtown Washington D.C., Georgetown, and nearby National Institutes of Health and National Naval Medical Center, this is an ideal spot to enjoy a meal and then experience the best of what the area has to offer in terms of shopping and recreational opportunities. Our patio dining ir located along one of the most pedestrian-oriented streets in Montgomery County. Because of it, Uncle Julio's also draws business people, families and lovers of Tex-Mex and traditional-Mexican food or anyone looking for the best Happy Hour in town. Not surprisingly, our Uncle Julio's has been voted as the most kid friendly restaurant in Bethesda for its great patio and family friendly atmosphere.

Uncle Julio's original recipes demand only the freshest ingredients tailored after Julio's family tastes. Ahhhhh, unforgettably authentic. . . Let the aroma of handmade tortillas and sizzling fajitas lure you to dine at Uncle Julio's. The freshly made salsas, delectable enchiladas and slow-cooked ribs tempt you. Beyond tacos, enchiladas and tamales, Uncle Julio's specializes in marinated and mesquite grilled beef and chicken fajitas, ribs, quail, frog legs, and jumbo shrimp. A custom margarita, created from your choice of more than 10 different tequilas, awaits your first sip. Festive surroundings, attentive wait staff and lively music enhance your overall experience.

The first Uncle Julio's opened in Dallas, Texas in November 1986. Its popularity grew rapidly, and with it came an instant craze for a drink named The Swirl, which is a frozen concoction of layered margarita and home-made sangria. Uncle Julio's has grown to 19 restaurants located in Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Virginia. Known locally as The Rio Grande Café. The Washington Post's Phyllis Richman in writing about one of our restaurants in the DC-Metro area said that "the Rio Grande Café is clearly riding the wave into the next century." She also stated in the article that the restaurants feel like real Southwest, yet part of the neighborhood, with servers that behave as loving aunts and uncles."
