About

Having opened its doors in 1992, El Paso Café stands as Arlington's original Tex-Mex & Salvadorean Cuisine and also as a historic site of a presidential visit when on a Tuesday night in 2001, sitting President George W. Bush, the First Lady and a few friends, decided to have dinner and walked in with the usual security entourage and plenty of local news fanfare. They enjoyed our selection of enchilada platters and our homemade chips & salsa. In honor of the President and First Lady's visit we hand-painted the chair in which Mr. Bush sat, and which now rests in the ceiling banister of the restaurant.

Family-owned and operated, the El Paso Café is housed in the former Buckingham post office, with the original front of the building kept as it was in order to preserve its architectural history. We offer a family-friendly environment with quality food, experienced staff, weekly live entertainment & plenty of great atmosphere. We serve Salvadorean dishes and a variety of traditional Tex-Mex cuisine with a unique El Paso twist. We hope the efforts of our family owned business will reflect in your experience and make you feel right at home and part of our family.

Editorial Review: El Paso Cafe
Erin Hartigan, The Washington Post | April 24, 2012

Open since 1992, this friendly neighborhood spot sticks to the Tex-Mex basics and handles them well. Families, happy-hour hunters and fans of spicy food come here for the large platters of chile-packed delicacies. The food is happily above-average, but after a margarita or two, you may not even pay attention.

The El Paso Cafe in nearby Arlington, Virginia, shares a parking lot with a bodega in a largely Hispanic neighborhood. One night seven years ago, the current president ate here. Indeed, the restaurant commemorates the occasion with the chair Bush sat on hanging from the ceiling.
